Frequently Asked Questions

If you want fiber broadband service from Bertram you must create an account through the online signup portal at  https://signup.gobertram.com/ . Under the terms of the Fiber Project Agreement with the Village of Sister Bay with Bertram Communications LLC, the cost of standard installations is included. Therefore, most property owners would not have any additional cost for installing service from the roadway to the building. The standard installation includes up to 300 feet and follows the shortest distance between the road and the building. For installations over 300 feet between the roadway and the building, Bertram will communicate with the property owner about the additional costs. Under the agreement with the Village, the cost is $40 per foot, which could be adjusted if the property owner provides its own compatible conduit.

After the project closes, the standard installation will have an additional fee of $4,000. Over 300 feet, the additional cost is $40 per foot which may be waived if the customer provides their own compatible conduit.

Service Plan needs are based on a number of factors including the number of people, devices, streaming apps, gaming, etc being used in each home. With Bertram’s current Service Plan pricing, all Service Plans are affordable plans. Bertram also offers the ability to change your plan at your request at any time.

If you live on a private road, please contact sbinquiries@bertramfiber.com to discuss your available options.

All individual property owners should complete the online signup form and sign the ROE agreement. Each association should contact Bertram to determine the best method for connecting their individual property owners. Please have Association Presidents contact sbinquiries@bertramfiber.com to schedule a meeting.

Bertram does not have data caps. We offer packages with unlimited data.

Yes. Bertram offers a monthly Seasonal/Vacation hold. The rate is $29 per month and is available from October 1st through April 1st. You have to call in and schedule your dates for your hold and have a valid payment method on your account. Keep in mind that the Seasonal/Vacation hold will be able to operate basic smart services such as lights and thermostats but not be able to operate security cameras.

The answer to this question is two-part. Bertram’s installation crew will contact each property owner that has signed a Right of Entry Agreement to determine the location that the drop will be placed from the Right of Way at the road to the property owner’s building(s) and schedule the installation of the drop at that time. Once the drop is scheduled, another crew will come and locate utilities and mark the property for said utilizities prior to the drop being placed.

Once the drop is placed, an appointment will be scheduled with you for another crew to do the installation into the building(s). At this point, you will be able to use your fiber.

You must sign the right of entry and service agreement for each property you would like to have service installed at.

Every effort will be made to use the shortest distance that provides the least

disturbance, unless a different path is less expensive and disruptive. If a property owner does not like that path they can choose another path but they may be subject to incur costs as that will not be considered a standard installation.

No. Your fiber installation includes bringing your internal connection inside the property up to 25 feet from the exterior box placed on your house. At that point it will be connected to a router provided by the customer. The cable will be plugged into the provided power supply and will need to be plugged into a standard wall outlet. This installation does not include running cabling through interior walls, or ceilings. Any cable needing to be ran more than 25 feet will be charged an additional $199.99 installation fee.

Bertram provides fiber internet services for the Village of Sister Bay. From this Fiber internet service, customers are able to purchase streaming services for their TVs and other devices. Customers are also able to connect their cellular devices to their fiber internet to access Wi-Fi calling features. This enables them to use their cellular devices in their home even when they don’t have cellular signal.

Unlike many internet service providers, Bertram uses what is referred to as an active network.  This means that every premise gets its own dedicated fiber strand, rather than sharing bandwidth with their neighborhood.  This means the very highest service levels are available to every location.

Bertram’s fiber network is buried in the Village of Sister Bay.

You may – or you may have your contractor – place empty conduit in the trench.  You should follow all guidelines for placing it far enough away from the power lines.

Bertram strives to return all working areas to as close to pre-construction condition as possible. If you have any further questions or concerns, please call 262-706-3260 or email info@fivestarenergyservices.com

Bertram provides industry leading Customer Support with technicians available to take your calls 24/7. Primary support hours are Monday-Friday from 8am-9pm and Saturday from 9am-1pm. They can provide information on billing, accessing the customer portal, and answer any questions you may have about the service.

You can call our customer support line at (920)351-1023.

Payment is not required to be dropped off with the ROE and Service Agreements. If the ROE and Service Agreements are signed and returned by July 12th, 2024, the standard installation will be provided at no cost to the customer.

Bertram Communications started servicing underserved communities across Wisconsin in 2003. We are now in 2 states and we are still dedicated to connecting small towns and rural communities. Our corporate office is located in Random Lake, WI and we are proud to serve the immediate surrounding communities. Our other offices are located in Baileys Harbor WI, Grant Park, IL.

You may use any type of conduit you prefer, but the conduit needs to be at least 1″ in diameter and must be run from the premise(s) to the ROW.

Bertram Communications recommends a Wi-Fi 6 router or a mesh-networking kit that is specified as capable of 1 Gigabit speeds.
